Big Campers are our Camp Counselors! Since most foster children have a counselor or therapist, we call this position a Big Camper. Each Big Camper will be required to fill out an extensive online application and hefty FBI background check. Qualified applicants will be offered an in-person interview with a panel of five RFK leadership team members. If chosen as staff, you will need to attend a mandatory training on Friday, April 5, and all day Saturday, April 6, as well as the entire week of camp, June 2-7. There is an additional required all-staff meeting on May 15, 2018. Staff will head up to camp on Sunday, June 2, after a morning team commissioning service at church. All RFK staff will be expected to participate in fundraising efforts to send two kids to camp. Service for the week of camp concludes on Friday early evening, June 8th, after a Welcome Home Dinner & Celebration. Each Big Camper will be assigned to two Little Campers for camp (two little girls with a female Big Camper; two little boys with a male Big Camper). Big Campers (Camp Counselors) must be 21 years and older and live in or near Colorado Springs. We also select people as a backup Big Camper in case anyone is unable to make it to camp the week before it begins. Camp is all about serving the kids, so we expect RFK staffers to be extremely flexible and ready to serve wherever needed, depending on the needs as determined by the RFK Director Team.

Our Royal Family KIDS Camp offers a myriad of arts and crafts opportunities, ranging from duct tape bags and soda bottle rocket launchers to tie-dyed tshirts and bug catchers. We also have a woodworking team that helps kids build birdhouses, sailboats, insect houses, and much more. We have a need for people to join our team and oversee activity stations, help kids make survivor bracelets (or other items), and assist them to bring out their creativity. This is open to both men and women, 19 and older. You do NOT need to be an art major or art teacher to be part of this team! Our Royal Family KIDS Camp offers an incredible opportunity to a photographer or two at camp. We ONLY allow a camera to be carried by our safe photographer(s) or RFK Director Team. Many kids have been abused and manipulated—or taken advantage of—through photography. So, we want to make this a positive thing for them. Our photographer must be highly knowledgeable in beautiful, professional, photography; be positive and approachable; and take 15-20 high-quality pics of each Little Camper throughout the week. With 72-76 kids at camp, this is a huge responsibility to capture them horseback riding, hiking, making their first s’more, at the tea or birthday parties, and all of the other things in between. We provide each child with a Memory Book at the end of the week to take home and treasure. The Photographer(s) work with a Memory Book Team Member who oversees this massive project and make a great memory book, filled with photos, Scripture of the week, and “Love Notes” designed specifically for Royal Family KIDS. The Memory Book Team Members must be highly detailed, help sort through photos, and get to know each and every child at camp so they can build print and include the right number of photos for everyone! We have many roles at camp that are a vital part of our ministry to Royal Family KIDS including: Outdoor Rec/Coach Team, Grandma/Grandpa, Music/Worship Team, Drama/Skits Team, Arts/Crafts Team, Woodworking Team, Bible Teaching Team, Puppet Skits, Object Lessons, Photography/Memory Book Team, Nurse/Medical Team, Postmaster/Camp Mail Team, IT/Sound Board/AV Tech Team, Royal Treatment/Hospitality Team, Tea Party (part of June 4 only), Birthday Party (part of June 5 only). All roles require an application, in-person interview (if offered), and mandatory attendance at a 2-day, 12-hour training (Friday night, April 5, and all-day Saturday, April 6) with the exception of Birthday and Tea Party Teams. These require one four-hour training only. Our Royal Family KIDS Camp Music Team is a highly energized, animated, and joyfully enthusiastic group. The Music Team members lead kids and staff in songs (with awesome motions and dances learned before camp) in our morning and afternoon large group sessions with all of the kids and staffers. The ability to play a musical instrument is NOT needed for this volunteer opportunity! Royal Family KIDS provides an MP3 of all songs. There will be opportunities for the Music Team members to lead music at Mentoring Clubs throughout the school year if this is something desired after camp.
